Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog

Malex's picture

Interest piqued? Great!

Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog is a brand new internet mini-series featuring supervillainy, a laundromat, and... singing? It's written/directed by Joss Whedon and stars Neil Patrick Harris, Felicia Day, and Nathan Fillion, so you know it's gotta be good.

The mini-series is in three parts. The first part was released for free on their website today, with the second and third parts following later in the week. If you're going to watch it, you'd better hurry, because it'll vanish off the face of the web by Sunday.

I haven't seen the whole thing yet because, like you, I am not special.

However, I have now seen the first part, and I'm already inexplicably enthralled. Maybe it's the smashing dialog? Perhaps it's the hilarious premise? It could even be the astonishing acting or the criminally catchy cache of tunes! Oh, and did I mention that it's a completely independent production? So I guess my enthusiasm isn't so inexplicable after all.

Fyi, I'd peg the language between a PG and a PG-13 level. It's pretty mild, so unless you're particularly sensitive to such things I'd feel comfortable recommending it. Update: Not anymore. Please see this comment.

Update

Malex's picture

Apparently people are liking it, as the official site is completely overloaded. If you want to watch, can't get on the official site, and don't mind spending a few bucks, the whole mini-series is available from the iTunes store for a mere $4.

Another Update

Malex's picture

Yes, the link was down for most of the day, but it should be back up now. (And hopefully they bought a big enough server to handle the onslaught this time.)

Also, they supposedly have fixed various problems for non-US watchers. So, if you're not in the US, and you weren't able to watch it before, I suspect you can probably get to it now.

Finally, it really is that good. I'd wager it's worth your thirteen minutes to watch it for free. But don't forget to come back here and let us know what you think. I wouldn't mind getting a bit of a discussion going. ;)

Warning!

Malex's picture

Of course they couldn't resist. The second episode has some unsubtle innuendo in it. It's pretty funny, imho, but not kid friendly.

I would definitely not place the rating in the PG vicinity any longer. Act two is solidly PG-13.

What a scream!!

This is the funniest thing I've seen in a while! If you haven't seen it yet, guys, do! It's definitely worth $4.

Best line: "Ok, Dude. You ... are NOT my nemesis!"

It struck me as very Malex and Jeffrey X-D

I love Dr. Horibble's face when he says, "And there are kids in that park, so..."

WARNING

SangMing's picture

Okay. As the (un)official den mother of the site I must warn you about the second episode:

****MILD SPOILER AHEAD, BUT IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD****

Capt.Hammer & Dr. Horrible meet in the laundromat toward the end of this episode. After Penny walks away, they converse. The gist of the whole conversation is kind of unpleasant. Hammer walks away, leaving a sentence unfinished. He returns, though. If you turn the volume down now, then turn it up again after Hammer leaves, you won't miss anything important to the plot, since he had already made his intentions abundantly clear. The line isn't funny, either. This is what I'm going to do when my family watches it later.

I thought the first part was extremely funny! I can't wait to see the second one, thanks for the warning SM!

Hmm...

Lilly's picture

After watching the last part I am not so impressed with this... For being a comedy I didn't find the last part funny at all. Though I loved alot of the music through the whole thing.

The beginning was really good, the second part was ok, the ending wasn't really worth watching I think.

Mhm

A tad disappointing.

I liked it.

Aisling's picture

It seemed to me to not be, wholeheartedly, a comedy but instead a dramedy. I liked the ending, even though it was sad. It was, I thought, a pretty well told story. Though there were certain lines that could probably have been rewritten or left out all together.

"He speaks of Meow."

"Just feed the cat."

I liked it

Mariel 7's picture

It was indeed a dramedy. I loved the 2nd part the best. The first part made it seem more like a spoof story than an actually, dramatic show. Overall I give it a 9/10.

By which you mean anything that Captain Hammer said >.<

When forming a band, be sure to have a mini-fridge in your practice space. It's more important than a bassist.

That's Joss Whedon for you...

Suck you in, then rip your heart out. I should have known, but I was as surprised as anyone. I hope you guys don't hate me forever for recommending it. :-P

Although really, I did enjoy the whole thing. Even the ending. And especially the music. (But excluding the sexual references.)

*not hating Malex*

I really liked the first part and I was just expecting better after that. I guess the end was ok, part of the problem for me was i thought that that wasn't the end.

I really liked the first part. I liked the second part. I didn't really like the third part much at all... But as you say, Malex, I really loved <3 the music through all of them! There were some really amazing harmonies in there!!! XD

I love :-* harmonies!!!

*loving Malex anyway*

SangMing's picture

I've actually dreamed about the dumb story. I REALLY wanted things to turn out well for Dr. H. But seriously, when one is willing to turn to crime to get one's own way...and he was willing to cack Capt. H....Still, the story just kind of haunts me.

I finally saw them all the other day and I thought that they were over all very good except for certian parts for obvious reasons but it was still well written and funny.
